Assessment

A structured conversation designed to understand your current abilities and provide personalized, evidence-informed guidance to help you preserve and develop your independence.

Preparing for Your Assessment

Don't worry if you don't have everything listed above. Project Independence is designed to adapt to your individual circumstances. These items simply help us complete your Functional Independence Review comfortably and efficiently. If something isn't available, we'll adapt the consultation to your circumstances.

What You'll Need

  • Comfortable clothing

  • A sturdy chair

  • A small step or step stool (about 6–8 inches / 15–20 cm)

  • Approximately 8 × 8 feet (2.5 × 2.5 m) of open space

  • Glasses or mobility aids if normally used

  • Any questions or concerns you'd like to discuss

What to Expect During Your Consultation

Every consultation is a conversation—not a test. There are no right or wrong answers. The goal is simply to understand where you are today so we can make thoughtful, individualized recommendations together.

First, We'll Get to Know You

We'll begin by discussing your daily activities, physical demands, current limitations, relevant medical history, and any factors that may influence movement or independence.

This helps us understand where you are today before making any recommendations.

Then, We'll Discuss Your Goals

Every person has different priorities.

Whether your goal is improving balance, moving with greater confidence, returning to a favorite activity, or simply maintaining your independence, understanding what matters most to you helps guide the entire consultation.

Next, We'll Complete the Functional Independence Review

Together we'll work through a series of simple, individualized observations designed to understand how your current abilities support meaningful daily life.

Movements are always adapted to your comfort level, and you are encouraged to ask questions throughout the process.

During the Consultation

We'll discuss what we're observing as we go.

Recommendations are explained so you understand not only what is being suggested, but why.

Our goal is for you to leave with a clear understanding of your current abilities, confidence in the decisions ahead, and practical recommendations you can actually use.

After Your Consultation

After your session, we'll carefully review everything we observed, consider your goals and priorities, and prepare your personalized Independence Report.

This dedicated review process allows recommendations to be thoughtful, individualized, and supported by careful observation together with the best available scientific evidence. Rather than relying on first impressions, every recommendation is developed after a thorough review of your consultation.

Your completed Independence Report will be delivered within 24–48 hours and will include a summary of your current abilities, key observations, practical recommendations, and personalized next steps designed to support your long-term independence.
